Wonderful Video!
I hope this video will show that fine tuning is a real thing.
So, in other you don’t have an answer either, am I right?
Read the book, why don’t you?
Because then I will have to spend money on physics I will not likely understand only to have Luke subtly insinuate Goddidit.
The physics is in layman terms. Understandable for someone with high school physics 20 years ago.
Also, disliking a (believed) conclusion before hearing the argument – I’m sorry, but as an argument that one has a grand total of zero redeeming features.
I solemnly swear I will not subtly insinuate Goddidit.
If the argument in any way alludes to Goddidit then I will dislike it on principal.
It’s in my nature.
It’s the way I evolved, sorry.
I believe you , Luke, i really do. I suspect subtlety is not your strong suit, am I right?
@Ark,
Do you normally troll suspected theists, or is it just a source of personal zest?
Aleksyl.
Can you think of a single benefit that theism and god belief in general brings to society?
Sure. A solution to the fine tuning problem, the problem of evil, our eventual mortality etc.
Guys, please don’t feed the troll. Arkenaten has a history here, and a well-deserved reputation for this sort of thing that spans multiple forums. Luke has worked very hard to provide us with this forum, so let’s try to keep these discussions to those who are here to learn and make constructive contributions. Thanks. 🙂
I am new here, Scott. So I have yet to figure out who are the gadflys of this forum. 🙂
Hi Aleksyl… welcome to Luke’s blog! Fortunately, Luke has a relatively small troll infestation. Of the few pests that beset him, Arkenaton is the most prolific but also the most predictable. He has a standard M.O. which is pretty easy to spot once you know what to watch for… Typically, he’ll approach you with a superficially civil request sweetened with a “please” or “thank you,” the intent of which is to bait you into acknowledging belief in God. Take the bait, & he will dispense with any pretense of civility & head-butt you with his one & only argument (which he refers to as a “slam dunk”)… The Pentateuch is not historical (a claim he bases almost entirely on the the work of a single atheist researcher)… therefore all religion is false (an obvious non-sequitor)… & virtually everything any religious believer has to say regarding any topic whatsoever can be dismissed with no further consideration (a textbook example of the Poisoning the Well fallacy that wouldn’t get past any high school philosophy student). His favorite cheap shots are “goddidit” (when fine tuning is the topic of discussion, as it is here), & “arse hat” (which he’ll resort to when he’s cornered & knows it… & which most of us here consider synonymous with checkmate).
Of course, if he ever breaks out of this pattern & offers a genuinely civil & constructive critique, by all means respond to him… He’s far brighter & more capable than you would gather from his usual contributions to this, & other forums he frequents. But as long as he sticks to the sort of behavior you see here & elsewhere at this forum, he shouldn’t be encouraged.
Best. 🙂
Ooops… I missed a closing “” tag after “poisoning the well fallacy”. Luke, if you see this, would you mind inserting one for me? Thanks! 🙂
